Takradhara Ayurvedic Therapy: Enhancing Health and Wellness

Takradhara Ayurvedic Therapy is one of the many effective Ayurvedic therapies in Singapore that offers holistic healing and rejuvenation. This ancient practice, rooted in Ayurveda, aims to harmonize the mind, body, and spirit by targeting the central nervous system. By incorporating specialized techniques and herbal treatments, Takradhara Ayurvedic Therapy promotes overall well-being and alleviates various health issues. In this article, we will explore what Takradhara Ayurvedic Therapy entails, its numerous benefits, and how the Singapore Ayurvedic Health Care Centre – Global Ayurvedic Centre, plays a pivotal role in providing this transformative treatment.

What is Takradhara Ayurvedic Therapy?

Takradhara Ayurvedic Therapy is one of the best Ayurveda Therapies in Singapore that involves the gentle pouring of warm herbal oil or decoctions over the forehead, specifically targeting the Ajna chakra. The procedure is deeply soothing and relaxing, resulting in a harmonious balance between the physical and mental aspects of the patient. Takradhara is ideal for Patients with Insomnia, Stress, Migraines, Paralysis,  Alzheimer’s,  Depression, Spondylitis, psoriasis, etv.

The term takradhara is made from two words, Takra and Dhara. Takra means buttermilk and Dhara is stream. Takradhara Ayurvedic Therapy is a unique treatment that uses medicated buttermilk. Takradhara is a traditional Ayurvedic methodology wherein a stream of buttermilk is poured to focus on the body part. Buttermilk is poured in a continuous stream over the forehead and it soothes the Marmas, which activates the immune system of the body. This improves blood flow in the brain. Takradhara is recommended for psychosomatic disorders. It is suited for people with Pitta imbalances.

The advantages of takradhara are very similar to that of Shirodhara, however, the major difference is the use of medicated buttermilk. The milk is prepared through a special procedure. Initially, the milk is boiled and after adding medicines, curd is added. Then the solution is kept overnight. By churning this shirodhara is prepared.

Types of Takradhara

There are three types of Takradhara based on its application on the part of the body.

If Takradhara is done over the head of the patient, it is known as Takra Shirodhara. This helps with ailments such as migraines, psoriasis and anxiety. If it is performed over the whole body, it is Takrakaya dhara or sarvanga Takradhara. It is an effective measure for exhaustion, fatigue and stress.  Takra ekanga dhara, which is the Takradara executed over a specific area of the body, is used as a remedial therapy for psoriasis.

The Steps Involved in Takradhara Ayurvedic Therapy

Let’s discuss the various steps involved in Takradhara Ayurvedic Therapy.

Before the initiation of any therapies or massages, a thorough consultation is done by an experienced Ayurvedic therapist at Global Ayurvedic Centre to check Prakriti, Vikruti and dosha imbalance of the patient. Once the medical fitness of the patient to undergo such therapy is confirmed by the physician, the takradhara ayurvedic therapy is administered. Consultation gives specific insights into the health, medical conditions and medical history of the individual. The patient can convey his/her specific needs and concerns to the medical practitioner.

The individual undergoing Takradhara Ayurvedic Therapy is comfortably positioned on a special treatment table, making sure of relaxation throughout the procedure. A pillow is placed beneath the neck of the patient to let the headrest slightly back. The surrounding environment is meticulously set to induce tranquility and serenity.

The medicated buttermilk is prepared before the treatment. The lukewarm liquid is then carefully poured on the forehead or the entire body of the patient ensuring it falls uniformly over the scalp and doesn’t go in the eyes or ears.

To prepare the mind and body for Takradhara, a soothing head and scalp massage is performed using herbal oils. This helps to relax the individual and loosen any tension in the head and neck area.A specially constructed vessel is used to rhythmically and continuously pour the medicated oil or herbal decoctions over the forehead or any other body part in a gentle stream. This process creates a meditative and deeply calming experience.

After the procedure is done, the head of the patient is wiped with a sterile towel and a hot water bath is followed. Once the Takradhara is completed, the therapist may offer a gentle massage to the feet or hands, using medicated oils or Ayurvedic lotions. This further enhances relaxation and promotes overall well-being. Following the therapy, the individual is instructed to rest for a short period to allow the therapeutic benefits to fully integrate and hasten the therapeutic process.

Takradhara is a wonderful ayurvedic procedure and apart from cold-related symptoms, there are no such side effects to it. Medical practitioners will apply Rasnadi powder on the head to fight against the virus that may cause a cold or cough. This treatment will be continued from one week to three weeks, based on the seriousness of the disease and each session may go up to two hours.
